The melody in both sections of the pieces are very scale-related. Consider writing out both melodies for the entire band to play in unison. Work on matching note lengths, particularly for the staccato and tenuto notes. Some rhythmic challenges include dotted-quater/eighth note and dotted-eighth/sixteenth note patterns.
