teaching considerations
The piece is certainly one that will invoke excitement in young players. Many great educational tools are present in the work as well. There is extensive use of syncapation, lots of dynamic contrast including sforzando-piano, a variety of percussive sounds and complementary rhythms, as well as some unconventional sounds such as chord clusters, a "pick a note" measure for the brass, and a "hiss" and "ahh" from all the winds. This piece is sure to be a favorite of the band, an exciting piece for the audience, and a rewarding educational piece for the students.
